About This Blog

This blog page began as a communication tool between students in my master's cohort when our blackboard page was taken down but we weren't finished with our discussions. It has, since, evolved into my personal blog page where I share my thoughts on current events, social media, technology, education, and other topics that move me to write about them. Feel free to browse and leave comments. Welcome! Photo by David Schrock

Dave Matthews and Michael Franti

Michael and I went to see Dave Matthews and Michael Franti at the Nissan Pavilion Saturday. While I always expect a good show from Dave, Michael Franti was a new name for me. His music was a tremndous blend of jazz, hip-hop, folk, and reggae with a little political activism and social justice thrown in. His music was very earnest and hearfelt and down to earth. I truly enjoy Dave Matthews and believe that he and his band members are some of the most talented musicians I have ever had the pleasure to watch. For those of you who know me, you know that I was a muscian in my last life, but was left with only fledgling wings for it in this one. That is to say, I do not have a talent for singing (not that this has stopped me), but I do really appreciate good musical talent in pretty much any genre. While I dabble in playing music (piano mostly), what I really enjoy is listening to it. I see music in color, and for anyone who experiences this, you can appreciate the depths that music takes on you have synesthesia (coupling of the senses). For those of you who don't, all I can say is--I am so sorry. When I go to concerts I have a dilemma. I have paid some serious money to come and see live music, but I mostly want to close my eyes and enjoy the show in my head. I usually enjoy myself with some combination of the two. Anyway, the visual show at the Dave Matthews show was terrific and Michael Franti should be on my iPod by this afternoon.
